Cupcake Vineyards ages their Chardonnay in American oak barrels which allows the wine to undergo malolactic fermentation, a process that reduces the wine's natural acidity while creating creamy flavors in its place. This makes for a much better Chardonnay than you'd otherwise drink.
The taste of the 2008 Cupcake Sauvignon Blanc can be described as crisp and light, zesty and lemony. Although quite crisp, the acid is not overwhelming or distracting; on the contrary, it balances very nicely with the citrus, lemon flavors to make it a refreshing Sauvignon Blanc that is good to just sip alone or to pair with the right foods. The Cupcake Sauvignon Blanc is, however, better when cold - the balance between the acid and flavors declines noticeably as the wine's temperature rises.
Overall the Cupcake Sauvignon Blanc is "food friendly" and should work well enough with a wide variety of dishes, though it seems as though seafood is a popular combination.
As with the aromas, the taste of the Cono Sur Riesling is characterized by zesty, crisp, citrus flavors - primarily grapefruit, but with some mineral notes at the end. It's not especially complex and might prove to be a little on the sweet side for some but it has a nice, medium body and a moderate, short flavor intensity that works well in a variety of circumstances. It's acid levels work very well - strong enough to make the wine crisp, but not overwhelmingly so. You could sip it alone or pair it with food.
The taste of this light-bodied German Riesling consists primarily of pears and apples. It's medium-sweet and has very smooth, low acidity. This isn't a 'fine wine,' but it's a decent wine for everyday drinking and relaxing with. Relax Riesling is also usually a pretty good value for the money. I would personally prefer it if the wine were a bit more acidic because that would make it more balanced when drinking it alone, but the low acidity probably makes it more appealing to more people.
This light-bodied wine is very dry and tart - there are flavors of sour apple, spices like ginger, and just a bit of citrus. Overall the flavor character of the Hugel et Fils Alsace 2005 Riesling is very complex, but also very temperature sensitive. It takes very little warming for this wine to become too warm, so you need to pay attention to this when serving.
