New Jersey Wine? Hopes Being Raised for South Jersey Vineyards

Coming soon to a store near you: wines from New Jersey! If the prospect of wines from New Jersey sounds like the beginning of a bad joke, consider the fact that the prospect of good wines from California was once considered a joke as well. Today, California wines are drunk and praised all over the world.

The same might happen with wines from New Jersey — and from South Jersey in particular. Recent legal changes in New Jersey laws are about to make it possible.

Mumm Napa Brut Prestige

The Mumm Napa Brut Prestige reveals how good the results of blending wines can be, especially when they are being blended for a sparkling wine like this. This sparkling wine is both fruity and spicy, a little sweet without being overly sweet, and pairs well with a number of different dishes. Mumm Napa Brut Prestige is definitely worthy trying if you're willing to buy a moderately priced sparkling wine.

Fetzer Gewürztraminer 2007

The Fetzer Gewürztraminer is on the one hand thick and sweet enough to function as a dessert wine, but on the other hand it's also strong enough to stand up to foods and work as a regular dinner wine. There aren't many varietals that can pull off this balancing act, but the Gewürztraminer is one of them and Fetzer has done a nice job making this wine from it.

Alta Vista Premium Torrontes 2008

The 2008 Alta Vista Premium Torrontes is much drier than many other Torrontes that you can find out there. If you want a sweeter and fruitier Torrontes, this is not for you if you'd like a more complex Torrontes and the chance to experience this varietal in a different light, then this wine is worth looking for. It will probably go well with spicier and bolder dishes.

Apothic Red 2009

The 2009 Apothic Red is a good red wine to serve at parties because it's flavors will not only work well with a variety of foods, but the flavors are likely to be acceptable to preferences to a variety of wine drinkers. It's hard to find a wine that enough different people can enjoy but the 2009 Apothic Red is probably a good option to try. However, it may be better to avoid sweeter dishes when drinking the Apothic Red.
