Fetzer Gewürztraminer 2007

The Fetzer Gewürztraminer is on the one hand thick and sweet enough to function as a dessert wine, but on the other hand it's also strong enough to stand up to foods and work as a regular dinner wine. There aren't many varietals that can pull off this balancing act, but the Gewürztraminer is one of them and Fetzer has done a nice job making this wine from it.

The Spanish Quarter Red 2006

The Spanish Quarter Red is a dry, full-bodied wine with strong red fruit and chocolate flavors. It has nice acidity and medium tannins that are reminiscent of Zinfandel. It has a fairly extended finish, perhaps longer than one would normally expect from a red wine of this price.

Palacios Remondo La Vendimia Rioja 2007

The flavors of the Palacios Remondo La Vendimia Rioja are dominated by red berries and cherry with just a hint of oak. A full-bodied wine with mild acidity, La Vendimia has soft tannins and a decent length.

Valckenberg Ortega Trockenbeerenauslese 1999

The Valckenberg Ortega Trockenbeerenauslese is a heavy dessert wine so we paired it with several popular dessert choices. Unfortunately we disagreed on just how well the Valckenberg Ortega paired with several of them.

Robert Mondavi Private Selection Vinetta 2006

As with the aromas, the flavors of the Robert Mondavi Vinetta are primary dark berries like blackberries along with black cherries and plum. The texture is smooth and as thick as the wine looks when swirling in the glass and there is a hint of oak in the background. This full-bodied wine has an extended taste, high tannins, and is quite dry.
