We tried the Sterling Vintner's Collection 2007 Chardonnay with pasta carbonara, thus testing the Chardonnay with both smoky flavors and creamy textures. We found that the pairing was pretty good — the Sterling Chardonnay was sharper, tarter, and drier when paired with the pasta carbonara, which in turn made eating the pasta more enjoyable.
Color & Clarity
The Sterling Vintner's Collection 2007 Chardonnay is a very pale yellow, almost golden in color with nice clarity.
Nose
The aromas of the Sterling Vintner's Collection 2007 Chardonnay are moderate and fruity. They include honeysuckle, pineapple, vanilla, some floral notes, and other light fruit elements.
Palate
The Sterling Vintner's Collection 2007 Chardonnay is a dry, medium to full bodied white wine with nice acidity and moderate flavor intensity. The primary flavors are apple, vanilla, spices, and cream — fairly typical for an oaked American Chardonnay. Overall it's pretty well balanced in terms of its flavors and acidity. I think that this Chardonnay would work well with a wide variety of dishes, including steak, pork, chicken, and turkey.
