The Fetzer Gewürztraminer is on the one hand thick and sweet enough to function as a dessert wine, but on the other hand it's also strong enough to stand up to foods and work as a regular dinner wine. There aren't many varietals that can pull off this balancing act, but the Gewürztraminer is one of them and Fetzer has done a nice job making this wine from it.
The Clean Slate 2007 Riesling is a clean, refreshing Riesling that is very good during the warm summer months, provided you keep it well chilled. It will work well with most Chinese and Indian dishes, sushi, and probably anything that is mild-to-medium spicy. It might also be worth trying with various fish and pork dishes.
The 2008 Alta Vista Premium Torrontes is much drier than many other Torrontes that you can find out there. If you want a sweeter and fruitier Torrontes, this is not for you if you'd like a more complex Torrontes and the chance to experience this varietal in a different light, then this wine is worth looking for. It will probably go well with spicier and bolder dishes.
The 2009 Ballentine Chenin Blanc is a dry, medium-bodied wine with a crisp, tart acidity and tangy, citrus flavors with some mineral notes. The alcohol of the Ballentine Chenin Blanc is quite strong so keep that in mind - you're better off keeping it very chilled when drinking. If you let this 2009 Ballentine warm up too much, the alcohol will become too harsh and the wine will be unpleasant to drink.
The 2008 Trumpeter Torrontes has a smooth, creamy citrus flavor. It's an off-dry, light-to-medium bodied Torrontes with debatable acidity. By debatable I mean that I thought its acidity was weak but my wife found it crisp. It's also a relatively sweet wine. This Torrontes has very moderate aromas of lemon, maybe lemon zest, and other citrus.
Like the aromas, the flavors of the 2009 Mendoza Station Reserva Torrontes are mostly tropical fruit but combined with a bit of citrus. This is a dry, light-bodied white wine with marked acidity and a moderate flavor intensity. Like other Torrontes, it's best when drunk cold and shouldn't be allowed to warm up too much.
The 2006 Seven Heavenly Chards Chardonnay is a medium-to-full bodied dry wine with smooth acidity. Like the aromas, the flavors of this chardonnay are most like spiced apple pie, some butter, and perhaps some citrus notes. The alcohol can be fairly pronounced so this is a chardonnay that should be drunk well chilled.
The Brassfield Serenity 2006 is golden yellow, though a bit watery with clear edges. The Brassfield Serenity is an off-dry, medium-bodied wine with lively, marked acidity. The flavors are mostly fruit and apple. It has much of the sweetness and character of a good Riesling, though it doesn't actually taste like one. Overall the Brassfield Serenity 2006 is a very good, refreshing summer wine.
