Wine Appearance

As with the aromas, the flavors of the Robert Mondavi Vinetta are primary dark berries like blackberries along with black cherries and plum. The texture is smooth and as thick as the wine looks when swirling in the glass and there is a hint of oak in the background. This full-bodied wine has an extended taste, high tannins, and is quite dry.

Robert Mondavi Vinetta 2006 Tasting Notes

Color & Clarity
The Robert Mondavi Vinetta 2006 is a deep, dark purple wine that looks very thick in the glass and swirls around in a similar manner. It's got stronger legs than most wines I've tried, even though the alcohol content isn't unusually high.

Nose
The aromas of the Robert Mondavi Vinetta 2006 are clean with positive notes of dark berries, cherries, and a bit of plum.

Food Pairing

Pairing Robert Mondavi Vinetta with Cheeses

  • Cheddar Cheese: This is a mediocre pairing, with the Vinetta tasting a bit sour in conjunction with cheddar cheese
  • Swiss Cheese: This is also a mediocre pairing, with the swiss cheese tasting a little bitter in the presence of the Vinetta.
  • Aged Gouda: The Vinetta and aged Gouda are a fair pairing, nothing special but better than other hard cheeses.
  • Aged Parmesan: The aged Parmesan is much more aromatic when paired with the Vinetta.
  • Chevre: Pairing the Vinetta with fresh Chevre makes the wine's strong tannins much smoother and easier while the fruit flavors are emphasized.

Pairing Robert Mondavi Vinetta with Main Dishes

  • Hamburger: The Vinetta pairs nicely with hamburger, with the flavors of both becoming more robust.
  • Hot Dogs: This is a mediocre pairing, with neither the hot dogs nor the Vinetta changing noticeably.
  • Bratwurst: This is a positive pairing, with some interesting flavor dynamics between the Vinetta and the bratwurst.
  • Steak: I expected this pairing to be as good or better than the hamburger, but I found that it was simply fair with neither steak nor the Vinetta changing a great deal.
  • Roast Turkey: I feared that the Vinetta would be too dry and tannic for roast turkey, but in the end it was simply a fair pairing — nothing great, but not awful either.
  • Rosemary Potatoes: This was a good and pleasant pairing and I think that the salt in the potatoes were food for the Vinetta.

Robert Mondavi Private Selection Vinetta

Robert Mondavi Private Selection Vinetta is better than I expected - this wine has a lot of character and is enjoyable with a lot of casual foods that you'd like have during picnics or cookouts.
