Louis Jadot Macon Villages Chardonnay Tasting Notes

Color & Clarity
The 2007 Louis Jadot Macon Villages Chardonnay has a pale, greenish-yellow color and nice clarity. The center has a strong, constant color that becomes a clear rim.

Nose
The aromas of the Louis Jadot Macon Villages Chardonnay are low to moderate, consisting primarily of light citrus and pineapple scents. Some people also find a bit of apple and pear as well, though we didn't detect them.

Palate
This medium-bodied wine is dry with a nice, crisp acidity. I thought that there was also a bit of an alcohol burn at the standard drinking temperature, so I would recommend trying it chilled a bit cooler than other Chardonnays. The finish was a bit flat, which was disappointing in an otherwise decent Chardonnay. The flavors themselves were generally fruity and citrus, though no more specifically identifiable.

Food Pairing

Pairing Louis Jadot Macon Villages Chardonnay with Cheeses

  • Aged Gouda: The Gouda makes the Louis Jadot Macon Villages Chardonnay a bit more acidic which makes it feel a bit less flat at the finish.
  • Aged Parmesan: With the aged Parmesan the Louis Jadot Macon Villages Chardonnay tastes fruitier and fuller in flavor.
  • Aged Romano: The Louis Jadot Macon Villages Chardonnay tastes sweeter when paired with aged Romano.
  • Chevre: The pairing with fresh Chevre isn't anything special.

Pairing Louis Jadot Macon Villages Chardonnay with Main Dishes

  • Shrimp Scampi: When paired with shrimp scampi, the Louis Jadot Macon Villages Chardonnay tastes more tart and overall more flavorful. This Chardonnay stands up reasonably well to the strong butter and garlic flavors of the scampi and it would probably pair well with other buttery dishes.
  • Creamy Chicken: The Louis Jadot Macon Villages Chardonnay tastes more acidic and drier when paired with a creamy chicken dish and I would expect it to be about the same with most other creamy chicken or turkey dishes.
